The Haarlemmerhout, known locally as De Hout, is regarded as the oldest municipal forest in the Netherlands, spread across an old sandy ridge on the southern edge of Haarlem. It became a fashionable strolling ground for wealthy visitors from Haarlem and Amsterdam during the Dutch Golden Age and remains a green landmark today.
