Artis, officially Natura Artis Magistra, is Amsterdam's zoo and botanical garden and the oldest of its kind in the Netherlands. Founded in 1838 in the Plantage district, it pairs animal enclosures with nineteenth-century buildings and mature trees, offering photographers a leafy, historic backdrop.
